In February, the European Commission announced plans to launch a 6 billion-euro satellite network, and now EU countries are about to strike a deal. Reuters reports this based on interviews with insiders. On November 17, MPs from EU countries were to meet to dot the i's and pass the t's. The news agency writes that during this meeting, among other things, agreement must be reached on where the funding should come from. According to the EC, the satellite network should provide more cybersecurity and more stable internet connections for the whole of Europe. For example, it can be used as a backup for existing infrastructure and provide connectivity in areas not currently covered by service providers. The network needs to cover Africa in addition to Europe so that the EU can offer an alternative to its Chinese competitors there. The plan is to launch a maximum of 170 satellites between 2025 and 2027. Source: Reuters Source: Hardware Info
